ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- A local church re-opens their doors after a major face lift.
After four months of renovations, the United Lutheran Church, at the corner of Riverside and Rockton Avenue, is hosting an open house to display their new additions, including a revamped sanctuary with all new furniture, as well as, new classrooms and expanded offices. The renovations cost over $588,000 through loans and contributions. Many are hoping the renovations will lead to more churchgoers from the Rockford’s Westside.
Pastor Krista Zimmerman, United Lutheran Church, says, "I think it's just done a lot for the morale of the congregation. And, also, we hope that it does a lot for the Westside. We're here on the northwest side of Rockford and we're here to stay and we want to reach out to our neighbors."
This is United Lutheran Church's first major renovation since they first opened their doors in the 1960's.
