UPDATE: Enrique Diaz placed seventh at the Texas Roadhouse National Meat Cutting Challenge. He beat out more than 400 butchers across the country for his spot in the finals.
This was his third time competing.
ROCKFORD (WIFR) – A local butcher is heading to Hawaii for a national meat cutting contest.
Enrique Diaz will face off against six butches in the final round of the Texas Roadhouse National Meat Cutting Challenge. Diax is no stranger to the cutting contest. He won the $20,000 grand prize back in 2008. Diaz is hoping to show how he’s a cut above the rest again this year.
“It feels good that the company does this to us, because we're spending so many hours in the meatroom, and the company makes sure we have whatever we need. That's what they do for us,” said Diaz.
Diaz beat out more than 400 professional butchers to make it to next week’s finals.
