Loan Options for New Boone County Animal Services Building

BOONE COUNTY (WIFR) -- Boone County leaders are looking over three different options to pay for the proposed animal services building.

A referendum on the November ballot will ask voters if they want to the county to take out $800,000 in loans to pay for a new animal services facility. Staff members say the current building is too small, does not have room for cats, and lacks an isolation room and other safety measure to prevent disease from spreading between animals.

The finance, taxation, and salaries committee laid out three different options for loans: borrowing the money over a three, five, or ten year period. If it’s a three year loan, property taxes on a $100,000 home would go up by $8.28 cents a year. A five year loan would equal a yearly $4.97 increase and a ten year loan would result in an annual increase of $2.49.
