UPDATE: Liquor License Increase in Loves Park, First Time Since 1956

LOVES PARK (WIFR) -- The city with a heart says they've been generous to liquor businesses since 1956, but tonight Loves Park Council unanimously voted to increase their liquor license fee for the first time in 58 years.

Starting May 1st all places that sell alcohol in Loves Park will now dish out more money to keep their liquor license. City Council voted tonight on the new ordinance that went up a pretty penny. Bars will now pay $1,000 more a year. Restaurant fees will increase by $700. Liquor stores will go up $500 and $400 for places that sell only wine and beer.

"Well the committee took a long look at our fees and thought they wouldn't be a detriment to those who do business in loves park. It will also bring in enough revenue for us to have our daily operations for the city," says Clint Little, 1st Ward Alderman, Loves Park.

We spoke with several bars in Loves Park earlier and they believe their drink prices won't be affected. However, they may have to eventually raise them by a dollar to make up for increased costs.
