ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- St. Patrick’s Day is the holiday where everyone becomes Irish for a day, but on Sunday the Ethnic Heritage Museum celebrated one woman with deep Irish roots.
Linda Carroll was honored as the 2014 Irish Woman of the Year.
Carroll's parents came to Chicago from County Cork Ireland. Carroll and her husband moved to Rockford about 25 years ago and since then she's been very involved with the Irish community, even helping with the St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
Carroll says she's very proud to be Irish.
"Your heritage is important and if you can take your heritage from your family and keep passing it down to your kids and their kids and keep it going, it's the best, and being Irish is wonderful. I enjoy it. I've been to Ireland twice and it's fabulous," she said.
