Lincoln Promise Zone Authority Created

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- There is now a new opportunity for low income Rockford high school graduates to go to Rock Valley College for free.

On Tuesday the City of Rockford approved the creation of the Lincoln Promise Zone Authority. The board would award full scholarships for low income Rockford high school graduates going for their associates degree at RVC.

Those students must maintain a certain grade level in college to keep their scholarship. Last January Illinois lawmakers passed the Lincoln Promise Zone Act allowing Rockford, East St. Louis and Aurora to create these promise zones. Most of the money for these scholarships would come from private donations.
