"Life Goes On" Spokesperson Remembered

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- The Life Goes on Program is the Illinois Secretary of State's campaign to encourage people to become an organ or tissue donor. And the woman behind that cause was remembered for her service.

Victoria Tulcus passed away recently while waiting for a kidney transplant. She was the spokesperson for the Life Goes On Program. On Thursday family, friends and local leaders gathered to plant a tree to remember Tulcus outside the Polish Gallery in Rockford. Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White says this was a great way for her legacy to live on.

"I guess as she was leaving this earth in January, she said 'I didn't get my gift, but I want to make sure I leave a gift for someone else so she left two corneas of her eyes. So as a result of her generosity, two individuals can see," White said,"You may not have a need today, you may not have a need tomorrow, but sometime during your lifetime, you or someone that you may know will have a need for an organ and be as hopeful if that moment arrives, enough organs will be available for that to occur."

April is National Donate Life month. For more info on how to sign up to be an organ or tissue donor log on to LifeGoesOn.com.
