Letter Carriers Stamp Out Hunger

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Letter carriers go from house to house every day to pick up and deliver our mail, but today, the federal workers from around the Stateline were hard at work stamping out hunger.

For the 20th year, local members of the National Association of Letter Carriers went out on their routes and picked up food donations.

Branch 245, which serves Rockford, Loves Park, Machesney Park, South Beloit, Belvidere, Harvard, Rochelle, Oregon, Mount Morris, Galena and East Dubuque, has collected food for the Salvation Army since 1994.

Last year, the branch brought in over 98,000 pounds of donations.

"We feel that it's important to help the people that are less fortunate," said Belinda Anderson, the Vice President of NALC Rockford. "We're all about caring for our customers and we have customers that don't even get to eat everyday so we think it's about helping them."
