Leaders Try to Lure More Retailers

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Local leaders are hoping to boost our economy by recruiting more retailers to the area. For the first time ever, Rockford hosted the International Council of Shopping Centers. Businessmen Sunil and Bharat Puri helped organize today's luncheon. They say they wanted to give local politicians and business owners a chance to connect major retailers and showcase some of the amenities the Stateline has to offer. We caught up with one representative from a major retailer who tells us he's impressed with what he saw.

"Rockford's one of the larger middle markets in the state of Illinois, and we think there's opportunities to do things out here,” said ICSC member Jim Pye

Of course, recruiting more retailers means more jobs in our area. Puri tells us he's hopeful today's event really put Rockford on the map.
