Sheley Lawyers Request a New Trial

MORRISON (AP) -- The attorney for an Illinois man accused of killing eight people in 2008 has filed a motion asking for a new trial in one of the murders.

The Daily Gazette in Sterling reports that Nicholas Sheley's motion will be heard Jan. 16. That's the same day Sheley is set to be sentenced for his conviction in the bludgeoning death of 93-year-old Russell Reed.

Sheley's attorney, Jeremy Karlin, claims in his filing that there were 89 judicial errors in Sheley's case.

Sheley already has been convicted of murder and is serving a life sentence for the killing of a Galesburg man in 2008.
