ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- The Rockford Public School District says farewell today, to one of its assistant superintendents.
Today was Martha Hayes' last day with the district. She's retiring and moving back down to Florida to be with her husband.
Hayes rejoined the district 18 months ago, with superintendent Dr. Robert Willis' team. She previously worked in the district from 2004 thru 2007 with superintendent Dennis Thompson. Hayes says the district has accomplished a lot over the years.
"We've come a tremendous way with pre-school. Our partnership with Head Start and the opening of a pre-school center, but the one thing I want to say is all of this is a team effort and I've just been lucky to be part of that team,” said Hayes.
A replacement has not been named. Hayes says she thinks the district is opening up the position to everyone, as opposed to only accepting internal applications.
