ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Today’s your last chance to swing by Rockford City Market. More than 55,000 people attended the Rockford City Market this year. Almost 20,000 more than last year. Organizers added an extra hour to the market this year, so more people could attend. The Friday market features all home grown or made products. Including fruit and flowers. Local vendors celebrated the fall season by decorating their booths with all things pumpkin. City Market Manager, Cathy McDermott says the market brings more people to the downtown area.
"I think people really like to come down and buy the locally grown, locally made items and its a great place to socialize and see people that you know," McDermott said.
With the market's popularity this year, organizers have decided to create an indoor market, which will be all year round. They plan to renovate an old furniture store with some of funds from the River Edge Development Project.
The indoor market would be in addition to the popular outdoor one throughout the summer. They hope to be open several days a week next fall.
