ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Rockford's hotels and restaurants are packed this weekend with tons of visitors injecting hundreds of thousands of dollars into our economy.
All those people, about three thousand, are here for the NXT Sports Lacrosse Tournament at Sportscore Two.
This is the first of three consecutive years the Forest City will host the games. Over that time period the Rockford Area Convention and Visitors Bureau expects players and their families to fill more than 10,000 hotel rooms and spend more than $1.7 million dollars at area businesses.
"First time here in the city, first time here at the sports center. It's really, really nice. They've got the Skybox Grill up there you can grab lunch, there's a playground for the kids, beautiful lined fields, tons of space, really, really nice. Had a great time hanging out in downtown Rockford, looking forward to getting to go out to dinner later on tonight getting to see what the city has to offer," Wes Griffiths, a lacrosse coach from the Chicago area, said.
