La Voz Latina to Host Annual Recognition Banquet to Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- La Voz Latina will host its Annual Recognition Banquet on September 26, 2014 at Giovanni’s Restaurant and Conference Center in Rockford.

Celebrating its 43rd anniversary of serving the Latino community in Northern Illinois, the event will honor local Hispanics for educational and professional achievements that have inspired the community as well as individuals and organizations who have demonstrated a commitment to the agency and its mission. Individuals will be recognized in the following categories: Volunteer of the Year, Employee of the Year, Employee Years of Service, Latino of Distinction and Community Member of Distinction. Additionally, the Partner of Distinction honor will be awarded to a local company who has supported La Voz Latina’s programming throughout the year. Nomination forms may be found online or by calling 815-965-5784. The deadline to submit a nomination has been extended through August 22.

“La Voz Latina is fortunate to serve as a resource for thousands of local Latinos who help to shape the fabric of our region. It is important to recognize the dedication, passion and service of these leaders and we look forward to celebrating their significant contributions in September,” stated Luz Ramirez, Executive Director.

The banquet, a part of Hispanic Heritage Month which runs from September 15 through October 15, includes a social hour featuring an authentic scaled down mercado, dinner, awards presentation, silent auction and raffle, and features dancing and live music from Grupo Escape.

Tickets for the banquet are $60 for individuals and $750 for corporate tables of 8 and may be purchased online. Gold, Silver and Bronze sponsorships are also available. Proceeds from the event will benefit La Voz Latina’s programming and scholarships.

La Voz Latina is a Latino Community Resource Center dedicated to promoting the progress and serving the needs of Latinos throughout the region. A United Way community partner, La Voz Latina maintains a strong focus on education through English and GED classes, programs for youth, health and family education, and community awareness. Most importantly La Voz Latina has helped thousands of local Hispanics increase their skills, prepare for a better job, and lead healthier lives.
