ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Kody Walsh is still fighting murder charges for allegedly killing a Beloit woman from the back seat of a car this summer on I-90. But now, he's in trouble for damaging jail property.
The Winnebago County Jail says Walsh smashed a sprinkler head in his cell right before Thanksgiving. He also allegedly broke a light and it was all caught on video.
Other inmates were involved, too. Walsh now wears a yellow jumpsuit, because the jail has him under the highest possible security. He's in segregation, which means he's only allowed out of his cell once a day for an hour.
The jail superintendent says Walsh won't get out of segregation unless he can prove that he's not a danger to other inmates. Prosecutors say they are still waiting on DNA evidence to come back from the crime lab in his murder case.
The new property damage case is not nearly as serious as his murder charges, but Walsh could get up to 6 years in prison and have to pay a $25,000 fine. His private defense attorney has filed a motion to separate the murder case from this new property damage case.
