STATELINE (WIFR) -- The Salvation Army’s Freeport chapter kicked off its coat drive today and workers tell us it's getting more difficult to land donations.
More than 100 people waited outside before the Salvation Army opened its doors. The drive features coats and boots for kids, teens and adults. You can also get blankets to stay warm. Workers say with such a high demand, they need more donations.
"It’s very important, when you are an independent woman taking care of kids by yourself. It saves a lot,” said Brandy Baker, a local mother.
Rockford's Salvation Army is also collecting coats until this weekend for its annual "Koats for Kids" collection drive. The group would like to collect 3,000 jackets.
