Kidney Recipient Talks About Donating

ROCKFORD (WIFR) – Those who work every day saving lives are now hearing from someone who got another chance at life.

Karen Ludwig received a new kidney thanks to a generous donor. Ludwig spoke at SwedishAmerican earlier today. In honor of National Donate Life Month she’s spreading the word on her experience. She’s met with the family of her donor, a woman who died from a heart attack at 44. That woman’s kidney went to Ludwig and she says the man across the hall got her liver.

"Somebody's going to die so that I can live but it's a selfless gift. It's such a gift, and I have to do everything in my power to make sure that I protect this gift,” said Ludwig.

Ludwig will be at Sauk Valley College next week for another donor drive.
