Judge Gary Pumilia Retiring from 17th Circuit Court

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Chief Judge Joe McGraw has announced that Judge Gary Pumilia will be retiring on December 31, 2013.

Judge Pumilia has served on the bench since June 2000. During his tenure as an Associate Judge he was primarily assigned within the Seventeenth Circuit's Criminal Division where he presided over felony and misdemeanor cases in Winnebago County. Prior to his judicial service he practiced law in Winnebago County Public Defender's Office from 1976 to 2000 serving as the Winnebago County public Defender from 1981 to 2000.

With Judge Pumilia retiring, this means that there is a opening for an Associate Judgeship. The application period for the Associate Judge position will remain open until November 14, 2013 following the posting period and screening process by the Circuit Judges it is anticipated that this new judge will assume the bench in 2014.
