JANESVILLE (WIFR) -- Parker and Craig DECA students competed at the State DECA Conference held at the Grand Geneva Resort in Lake Geneva, WI. The conference was held March 19 through March 21, with 23 students participating from Parker DECA and 10 from Craig DECA. More than 1,200 students from Wisconsin participated and competed at the event run by Wisconsin DECA and the Department of Public Instruction.
The high school students competed in 2 written events and 2 oral events. The written events covered topics in economics, finance, business math, entrepreneurship, marketing, and management. The oral events related directly to a student’s interest in business and he/she had the opportunity to choose from different categories. Eight of the 33 students also completed 30 page marketing research projects for local businesses, which allowed the students to learn more about the business itself. Seven were from Parker High School and 1 from Craig High School.
A special thanks to Brodie Trophy, The Barn (Parker High School Store), The Caddy Shack and First Impressions Salon and Spa for participating in the market research projects. This event allowed students to apply different competencies from the classroom in a real-world setting.
Approximately 250 business professionals from around the state were involved in judging all of these young business professionals.
