A Janesville man convicted of First Degree Murder last month will spend the rest of his life in prison and the family of Michael and Christa Clark says justice has finally been served.
Darlene Mullenix hopes a life sentence will reunite her once close knit family.
“We’re all sad because my twin sister, Mikey’s mom, didn’t live long enough to see it.”
Mullenix and her family struggled to keep in touch, since her nephew Michael Clark and his wife Christa were murdered three years ago. Alexander Castillo broke into the Clarks’ home and shot them while their two young kids were just a few feet away in another room.
“He has to think about it everyday for the rest of his life, what he did, what’s left of it.”
Castillo will have plenty of time to think as he spends the rest of his life in prison. Allen Delmore says it’s the perfect punishment for his cousin’s murder.
“I feel like justice has been served, I feel that you know we’re going to move on from this and try as hard as we can to put the pieces back together,” said Delmore.
As for Mullenix, she believes this sentencing is the final piece needed to bring her family back together.
We also asked the family about the status of the Clark’s two young kids, one of which testified in the jury trial last month. The kids weren’t in court today and family members didn’t wish to comment about them.
Judge McGraw sentenced Castillo to another 51 years for home invasion charges. He will serve both sentences consecutively. His attorney plans to appeal.
