JC's 5 Star Outlet Closing

MACHESNEY PARK (WIFR) – Hundreds of jobs and a local anchor store are expected to disappear by the end of the year. We just got word today that Machesney Park’s ‘JC’s Five Star Outlet’ will be shutting down.

This will be the last holiday season we’ll be able to shop at Machesney Park’s former JCPenney Outlet, now known as “JC’s 5 Star Outlet.” We’ve learned the business is one of 15 expected to close at the end of the year.

You may remember, the business was bought by SB Capital Group back in 2011, with hopes of rebranding the company’s image.

Since the acquisition, the stores haven’t had enough inventory which made it hard to turn profit, forcing the company to shut down. The stores will stay open until all products are sold. For a lot of shoppers, the closing comes as not only a surprise, but a disappointment.

“I think there are a lot of people who really need reasonable priced items and I think that will be really, really hard. It is a great place to shop for people who need…anything,” said shopper, Patricia Brandon.

1,400 jobs are expected to be lost. It’s unclear how many of those will be in Machesney Park.

Machesney Park’s mayor says he didn’t know about the closure until we spoke with him today. Current employees are being encouraged to apply for open positions with affiliated companies.
