Ingersoll Project Interested in Former District 205 Administration Building

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- After sitting vacant for nearly a year and a half, District 205 finally has a potential buyer for its former administration building.

District 205 wants to partner with the City of Rockford. The District would pay about $700,000 to demolish the building. The city would then use this space for parking to go with the proposed sports complex at the downtown Ingersoll building.

School leaders say it will be nice to finally get this property off their hands.

"The district doesn't want to have vacant buildings around, we want to either dispose of them or sell them or pass them on to somebody else so this works out good for the community. We believe that this piece of property will help the whole downtown area,” said Todd Schmidt Chief Operations Officer.

The operations committee is expected to vote on this agreement with the city tonight. It would then go to the full school board for a vote. If approved, we could see the site demolished within three to six months.

In exchange for paying for the demolition, the city would provide certain services for District 205. The city would possibly pay for salt and provide and plant tree s for the district. The city could also put in some sidewalks and demolish other properties for RPS over the next five years.
