SPRINGFIELD (AP) -- Illinois officials are encouraging residents to make emergency plans for their pets as well as themselves.

The Emergency Management Agency and local departments will circulate that message during May.

The state agency will reintroduce a series of radio spots based on the classic "Animal Stories" segment on WLS radio from the 1970s. They feature Larry Lujack and Tommy Edwards as "Uncle Lar' and Li'l Tommy" to highlight the importance of pet emergency preparedness.

Emergency Management Agency Director Jonathon Monken says pet owners should have a three-day supply of food and water, extra supplies of pet medicines, copies of registration and vaccinations, collar and leash, toys and treats.
