ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- One state wide organization hopes to jump start the conversation among Illinois residents about the state's teacher pension system.
The Illinois Policy Institute hosted a forum Tuesday night at Auburn High School to provide a greater understanding of how we're impacted by who funds teacher's pensions. Some lawmakers think the financial burden should be shifted from the state to local school districts. The institute agrees, but some worry that could raise property taxes since already underfunded school districts can't absorb the cost.
Others have suggested increasing revenue by changing the way income tax is calculated. They suggest doing away with the flat income tax rate and tax us based on our income.
