ROMEOVILLE (AP) -- The National Weather Service says Rockford has had 47.2 inches of snow so far, making it the 23rd snowiest season since records were kept there beginning in 1905.
Nearly 68 inches of snow has fallen so far this season in Chicago, making it the fifth-snowiest winter on record. And the snowfall total is likely to keep climbing as the season drags on.
The National Weather Service in Romeoville says despite the unusual amount of snow, this winter still isn't record-setting. The snowiest winter since 1884 took place in 1978-1979. That's when 89.7 inches of snow was recorded in Chicago.
And in Peoria, the National Weather Service office in Lincoln says the community's received 48.9 inches of snow through Sunday. That makes it the second snowiest since 1883.
