CHICAGO (AP) -- Illinois officials are planning late-night enrollment events ahead of the deadline to sign up for private insurance under the national health care law.
Get Covered Illinois executive director Jennifer Koehler says enrollment counselors will be available until midnight at several locations Saturday through Monday to make sure people can meet Monday's deadline. A call center extended its hours until 10 p.m. this week and will be taking calls until midnight on the last three days of the month.
Koehler says the state is on track to meet a federal goal of 143,000 enrollees. She expects young adults will be the "toughest holdouts."
People without insurance can be fined either 1 percent of their income or $95, whichever is greater, when they file their 2014 federal taxes.
