UPDATE: ROCKFORD (WIFR) --A lawsuit filed to re-open Rockford’s Singer Center has been tossed out, meaning the center is staying closed. The Illinois Nurses Association requested a judicial review on the situation. However the court ruled, since Singer is already closed, re-opening the case wouldn't do any good.

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- The Illinois Nurses Association is trying to block the closure of the Singer Mental Health Center.

They filed a lawsuit Wednesday claiming without Singer there won't be enough local resources to treat mentally ill patients. The nurses association spokesperson tells 23 News since the new triage center won't accept referrals for violent patients or ones under the influence of drugs or alcohol there will still be a void for treatment. Seventeen nurses work at Singer. When it closes at the end of the month they could be transferred to other facilities.
