ISP Warn Public to Avoid Traveling in Winter Weather

ILLINOIS (WIFR) -- Illinois State Police District 16 and District 1 officials are urging motorists to stay off of roadways due to white out conditions this evening January 26, 2014.

“We are urging motorists to avoid traveling unless absolutely necessary until the weather improves. Troopers have reported many roadways as impassable and treacherous with white out conditions present throughout the area. Visibility is extremely limited. We encourage motorists to check for weather conditions and road closures,” said D16/D1 Interim Commander John Biffany.

The Illinois State Police would like to remind motorists if they cannot avoid travel, to ensure their vehicles are fueled and to keep a winter survival kit in their cars containing at least a cell phone and charger, blankets and extra clothing, a first aid kit, a flashlight, water, and food in the event they become stranded for any length of time.
