ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Construction crews with the Illinois Department of Transportation are finally going to finish the work started last summer on the East State Street and I-90 interchange.
That road work begins Monday, May 5, 2014, and the ramps in the area will not close. Crews will repave the ends of the ramps connected to East State Street. Workers will also complete work on storms sewers and drainage pipes in the area. Traffic will be shifted over during the repaving but the ramps will stay open. Drivers are asked to obey the posted speed limits. IDOT says the work should wrap up later this summer.
Construction also begins Monday on the Harrison Street Bridge that crosses over the Rock River in south Rockford. Crews will replace the bridge deck. Work will first begin on the north side of the bridge, so traffic will shift to the south side with one lane of traffic each way. Construction should be done by October.
