SPRINGFIELD (AP) -- If you're planning on driving anywhere for the holidays, the Illinois Department of Transportation says it's suspending all non-emergency roadwork to reduce traffic congestion.

The suspension begins at 3 p.m. Tuesday and will last until midnight Wednesday. The same thing will happen starting at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31, through midnight on New Year's Day.

IDOT says work zone speed limits will still be in effect even if construction workers are not present.

Lane closures could be in effect in some construction zones, depending on the projects. If you would like to look for a list those closures by county the agency has provided that information on its website.
