Holiday Traffic Arrests

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- The Rockford Police participated in the year end traffic safety push called “Drive to Survive.” The enforcement campaign was designed to lower traffic vehicle fatalities due to not buckling up or driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Extra emphasis was given to the late-night hours of 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. when statistics show the highest number of motorists drink and drive and the fewest motorists buckle up.

In Rockford 3 DUI arrest were made on New Year’s Eve. With funding by IDOT, the following other arrests were made during this campaign.

DUI: 1
Speeding: 6
Seat belt violations: 5
Suspended drivers: 2
Insurance violations: 2
Other traffic violations: 6

This law enforcement crackdown was funded by federal traffic safety grants through IDOT’s Division of Traffic Safety and is part of the statewide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Click It or Ticket” campaigns.
