FREEPORT (WIFR) — Highland Community College has nominated students Katharyn Jones and JennyMarie Farmer for the All-USA Community College Academic Team. Both students have a 4.0 GPA and are active members in Highland’s Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) chapter.
The All-USA Community College Academic Team is presented by USA TODAY and Phi Theta Kappa, and sponsored by Follett Higher Education Group. Twenty students will be selected to the national team, each receiving a $2,500 scholarship and medallion. These students will be featured in the USA TODAY newspaper and presented at Phi Theta Kappa's Presidents Breakfast held during the Annual Convention of the American Association of Community Colleges Convention (AACC) April 22, 2013, in San Francisco, California.
Jones, originally from Alpena, Michigan, is earning an Associate of Arts transfer degree, and hopes to eventually earn a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education and a master’s degree in Library Science. Farmer, a Lena resident, is the current HCC Board of Trustees student representative and will earn an Associate of Science degree in Accounting before transferring to Northern Illinois University to major in Accounting.
