Highland Adult Education Announces GED Test to Undergo Changes in 2014

FREEPORT— The Highland Community College Adult Education program is encouraging potential students to complete their GED® test in 2013 due to changes in the price and format of the standardized exam. Anyone interested in learning more about the exam is invited to a GED Fair from 3 to 5 p.m. on February 20 at the Freeport Public Library in meeting rooms A and B.

A new computer-based GED test will replace the paper-based test at the end of the year. Currently, the cost for the paper-based test is $50, but the fee will increase to $130 on January 1, 2014. Since prior scores will not carry over into 2014, students with partial results will need to retake the entire test if not completed by December of 2013.

“Our department is preparing to meet these new challenges while also heavily encouraging current and former students to complete their GED test in a timely fashion,” said Mark Jansen, director of adult education programs. “The deadline of January 2014 may seem far away, but the amount of time needed to prepare and register for the exam varies per student.”

Individuals wanting more information on GED preparation classes should contact Highland’s Adult Education department at 815.599.3460.
