Higher-Priced Gas Hits Pumps

ROCKFORD (WIFR) - Average gas prices in the Rockford area have risen almost three cents this week, averaging at $3.81 per gallon.

According to GasBuddy, prices in the Rockford area were 27 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and 8 cents per gallon higher than a year ago.

The national average sits at $3.57 per gallon -- that's an increase of over six cents per gallon this week. The national average has risen five cents per gallon this month and is 15 cents per gallon lower than a year ago.

"Many motorists remain skeptical of the so called reasons that we blame higher prices on, (including)... the now completed switch over to EPA mandated cleaner summer gasoline," said Patrick DeHaan, GasBuddy.com senior petroleum analyst. "Other factors are coming into play in some of the bigger metro areas where more expensive reformulated gasoline has hit pumps."
