Oregon High School Hosts Relay for Life

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- High school students in Oregon are taking part in its first Relay for Life. The popular walk-a-thon is sponsored by the American Cancer Society. This morning, students lit luminaries to honor cancer survivors and remember lost loved ones. For the past month or so, students have also been raising money to battle the disease. We caught up with one senior who tells us it's all been worth the effort.

"My grandma died from cancer when I was about five years old, and I remember not really understanding what had happened. But now, as I've gotten older, I've started to really understand what cancer is, how we can prevent it, and this was just a way to do this with my school,” said Grace Nelson.

Each student set a goal of a $100. The high school hopes to raise 50,000 dollars.
