Health Clinic Planned for Inside Auburn High School

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- The Rockford School District has big plans for Auburn High School over the next few years with the addition of a new field house and classrooms, plus there's one new component to those renovations, a health clinic inside the school.

District leaders describe this proposed clinic as a head-to-toe health center for students, a place to go for sports physicals, dental work, even eye exams. Crusader Community Health and Rosecrance are partnering with the school district to offer those services. Crusader will pay for the supplies and doctors' salaries. The district will be in charge of building and maintaining the facility.

“Sports physicals, certainly, we hope to get an abundance of those completed, and just helping the students understand their health needs, help them manage their chronic illnesses and become healthier as adult citizens, that’s what our dream is,” says Mary Fisher, the health services supervisor for District 205.

The clinic will be open Monday through Friday, year round, even when school isn't in session. The clinic is being paid for by grants, some local funding, and $60,000 from the district. The full school board still needs to sign off on the plan. The clinic is expected to be up and running once the Auburn field house renovation is done, which should be in about two years.
