MACHESNEY PARK (WIFR) -- Thanks to the Harlem High School Student Council, quite a few packages will be staying right here in the Stateline.
For the past couple of weeks, students have been raising money and collecting toys for underprivileged kids. Today the student council and girls’ basketball team presented Harlem Township with a check for nearly $4,000 and dozens of toys. We talked with one student who tells us he's proud to be a part of the tradition.
"Students can do something in the classroom that involves something not a part of the class itself. It's within the community, and that just shows leadership, but it also shows commitment to the school and the Harlem community,” said Jonah Samp, Student Council President.
