ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Jefferson High School went into a hard lockdown at 2:00 p.m. today following a rumor of a weapon at the school. After a building search and investigation, the rumor was found to be not credible, and the lockdown was lifted at 2:20 p.m. Students and staff remain safe. The school day will continue, as scheduled.
Hard Lockdown: Protective action initiated to maximize life safety during an internal security breach where a significant threat to life exists. Building activity ceases, exterior and interior doors are locked, quiet is maintained and personnel seek secure shelter. This is the most restrictive form of lock down.
Soft Lockdown: Protective action initiated to maximize life safety during an external/internal security situation where a threat to building safety may exist. Exterior doors are locked; internal student relocation maybe indicated if threat is to a particular location at the school building. Internal doors may be secured if situation/threat indicates. Building activity may be maintained, however movement within the building is normally restricted. This measure can be modified to meet the needs of the situation or threat and is the most versatile.
