ROCKFORD (WIFR) – Dozens are uniting to help stop child abuse in the Stateline. Nearly three million cases are reported across the nation every year.
This is the 12th Annual Hands Around the Courthouse initiative in Rockford. It’s a chance for community leaders and members to work together to draw attention to abuse across the Stateline. More than 100,000 cases go unreported in Illinois annually. Judge Rosemary Collins describes the problem as one of the greatest tragedies of our times, saying it doesn’t have to be this way. She says we need to protect our kids.
“Too often these children who are abused and neglected as children become part of the system themselves as offenders so that's why we really want to break the cycle of violence. we need to protect the children in our community,” said Judge Collins.
April is child abuse and neglect prevention month.
