ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- The 66th Greenwich Village Art Fair takes place Sept. 13–14, rain or shine, on the grounds of Rockford Art Museum at Riverfront Museum Park, 711 North Main Street in downtown Rockford, Illinois. Gates are open 10 a.m.–6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Sunday. Admission at the gate is $5 for adults, free for children 12 and younger. Advance tickets are $3 and are available at Alpine Bank location and RAM Store. All proceeds support Rockford Art Museum programs throughout the year.
A Rockford tradition since 1948, Greenwich is the oldest continuous outdoor fine art fair in the Midwest. The 2014 art fair features more than 150 artists, live music, a gourmet marketplace, and children’s art activities. Alpine Bank is the presenting sponsor for the 21st consecutive year; premier sponsors are the Blazer Foundation, Dean Alan Olson Foundation and The Rock River Times.
More than 150 artists from across the nation will exhibit at this year’s fair. Types of artwork represented include paintings, jewelry, sculpture, glass, ceramics, textiles, photography, wood, mixed media and more. Artists compete for awards on the first day of the fair, where their work will be viewed by 2014 Judge Juan Fernandez, a working artist based in the Chicago suburbs and photography professor at Grand Rapids Community College in Michigan who previously taught at
Northern Illinois University in DeKalb. A Michigan native his work is represented in the permanent collection of Columbia College Chicago and the Midwest Photographers Project of the Museum of Contemporary Photography. Awards, including Best of Show and six Judge’s Choice awards, are announced Sunday, Sept. 14. List of exhibiting artists attached.
SPECIAL EVENTS at the fair include Greenwich After Hours (Sat, 6–8 pm) at Kortman Gallery Point Bar with a cash bar and music by DJ Fuzz, and the annual Art Raffle, announced Sunday, with raffle prizes of fine art donated by exhibiting artists.
KRYPTONITE MUSIC STAGE features live music all day, both days, by local musicians. All shows included with fair admission. Styles vary, ranging from jazz and blues, to rock and pop, to folk and country. The 2014 roster features Miles Nielsen, Sonic Boom, Jodi Beach and many more.
BUD LIGHT VILLAGE PUB serves grilled fare favorites, sodas, teas, Budweiser brands and more. Food and beverage vendors at Kryptonite Music Stage include CARLYLE BREWING COMPANY, WOODFIRE BRICK OVEN PIZZA, JAVAMANIA COFFEE ROASTERY, MATT HEY ICE CREAM, WE-B-POPP’N KETTLE KORN and EDIBLE ARRANGEMENTS.
CREATIONS BY KIDS is an area where children can make their own take-home art based on this year’s theme, “Where the Wild Things Are.” Sponsored by Children’s Medical Center at Rockford Health System and Prismacolor, the hands-on art activities are $1 each, or $5 for all 6.
KORTMAN GALLERY POINT BAR features signature cocktails, mixed drinks and fine wines. Point Bar hosts GREENWICH AFTER HOURS on Saturday night (6–8 pm, FREE and open to the public, featuring a cash bar and music by DJ Fuzz). Point Bar also features the Better Business Bureau Emerging Artist booth, with its own award sponsored by Kortman Gallery and J.R. Kortman Center for Design. Bistro Breakfasts—featuring individually prepared crepes (Saturday) and omelets (Sunday)—are served both days from 11 am to 2 pm; $7 includes complimentary coffee or cocktail. Live music at both days, 12–1 pm, with Sarah Abramowitz (Saturday) and Ron Rawhoof (Sunday).
GOURMET MARKETPLACE offers handmade favorites including fine chocolates, herbal teas, gourmet dips, cheeses and more. Vendors include Bella Luna Bakery; Maytag Dairy Farm; CACAOCUVEE fine chocolates; Wind Ridge Herb Farm; Dip n’ Good Dips; Annette’s Italian Specialties; The Beaded Zoo; Etim’s Beauty; Candle Crest Soy Candles; Cellar Door Designs and more.
