ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- People are being evacuated from a Southwest Rockford neighborhood after a gas line rupture.
The rupture occurred in the 1200 block of Holland Street, near South Central and Montague.
The fire department has evacuated and barricaded the 1200 block and the scene is now secure. The Fire Department says crews hit a two inch gas line. Nicor is now working to pinch off that line and end the leak.
Barbour Language Academy and Washington School are a few blocks from the scene, but at this point those two schools have not been affected.
It's not clear how long it will be before the rupture is repaired and people can get back to their homes.
