Funds Available for Homeless Assistance Programs

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- The City of Rockford Human Services Department announces a grant opportunity available through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for programs that address homelessness in Boone and Winnebago Counties.

HUD is making available homeless assistance grants to thousands of projects that house and serve homeless persons and families across the country through the Continuum of Care (CoC) grant program. Last year, HUD awarded over $1.6 million of these funds to help support a variety of efforts in Boone and Winnebago Counties that help the homeless obtain stable housing and self-sufficiency.

Eligible applicants include States, local governments, other government agencies (such as public housing agencies), private nonprofit organizations, and community mental health associations that are public nonprofit organizations. CoC funds are open to faith-based agencies that have IRS 501(c)3 non-profit status, however, funds cannot be used to fund any program that requires religious attendance or adherence as part of the program. The application is for permanent housing projects only.

Applications are available at the Community Services Division of the City of Rockford Human Services Department, 555 N. Court St., Suite 301 or contact for an emailed copy. Applications must be submitted by 3:00pm, December 17, 2012.
