ROCHELLE (WIFR) -- Organizers are putting the finishing touches on a new community café coming to Rochelle.
It’s called The Kitchen Table, a non-profit community kitchen that is completely based on donations. Diners can pay what they can, or if they don’t have money, volunteer their time serving meals or working in the kitchen. On Sunday, organizers held a fundraiser at the location on Klondike Road to bring in money to help get the restaurant up and running.
“The first thing most people let go are their groceries, so when you do that you may cut down to just sandwiches or soups or something like that,” says Carolyn Brown, the Executive Director of The Kitchen Table. “This facility would serve that purpose so anybody could come out and still get a decent nutritious meal and for just a simple donation."
Organizers hope to have The Kitchen Table open in the fall.
