FREEPORT (WIFR) -- The seven month search to find the Freeport School District's next superintendent is over with the board bringing in a new successor who has 14 years of experience as a superintendent
Dr. Roberta Selleck will become Freeport School District's new superintendent on July 1 replacing Dr. Peter Flynn who is stepping down after 12 years at the helm. Selleck previously served as superintendent with the Adams County School District in Colorado.
Her five years in the rocky mountain state included building two new state of the art schools and introducing a controversial school system that grouped students by their performance and not by their age.
Freeport Superintendent Dr. Peter Flynn said, "I think the board had some difficulty with making a final decision because they had some very good candidates, but there were some things they saw in Roberta that had her rise above the other applicants."
Freeport School Board President Gary Maxey says after meeting with Dr. Selleck and doing thorough research on her superintendent background, he's confident the board made the correct choice in selecting her for the job.

I believe that your school board will rue the day that your district hired Ms Selleck. In my humble opinion, I believe that she was the worst super that our district could have had. A 98.6 million bond issue was passed in order to improve ALL schools within the district---upshot was that a 30 year old high school and a 30 year old Admin building were both torn down to make way for a grand combined high school/admin building----about 90 million of the bond issue went to that Taj Mahal. An aging middle school was replaced and that wiped out the rest of the bond money that was for the whole district. Schools were shut down and some were torn down, supposedly, because they were too old and unusable---funny how some are currently being used by charter school groups----are they not too old or unusable for them?? All I can say is hang on to your wallets---she is a charmer and your school board will probably fall all over themselves to help her pick you clean. It only cost Westminster $239,000 to get rid of their mistake---hope it is less expensive for Freeport. You all are in the for the ride of your life so hang on.
Ah Freeport, we feel for you, unfortunately. When Ms. Selleck was deposed, the atmosphere and general feeling in the community and the district improved overnight. I truly believe that a standards based system can and does work because I've seen it work when implemented properly. Unfortunately, Ms. Selleck had not a clue on how to go about it. Therefore, she left a legacy of destruction. Wishing you the very best, Concerned 2
At the beginning of Roberta Selleck's 1st year in D50 she raised the beginning salary $8,000. in one fell swoop. Granted, our beginning salaries needed to be raised, but you don't raise them by $8,000. all within one year. That meant that all teachers within that range got a big jump in salary. In fact, D50 then became the highest paying starting salaries in all of the Denver Metro area, paying more than some of the more affluent disticts. It's no wonder we are now digging out of the huge hole she left us. Yes, she had 4 board members that she dazzled and they couldn't refuse her anything she wanted.
