FREEPORT (WIFR) -- Another loss for the city of Freeport as the Illinois Department of Employment Services is closing its Freeport office.
Federal funds have been cut, leaving officials to consolidate all services to a central location. The Illinois department of employment services consolidated to a central location, leaving 11 employees to find other jobs.
Officials say the close is due to lower walk-in rates as more people are going online for services. Mayor George Gaulrapp says this decision is unfortunate.
Gaulrapp also says current employees can work through their unions to be placed at another office.
Officials say the lease on the building also contributed to the closure. It will officially close at the end of the year.
