FREEPORT (WIFR) -- Freeport aldermen agreed to spend $20,000 repairing a local landmark.
Mayor George Gaulrapp is currently soliciting bids for masons to repair part of the nearly century old Rawleigh Building. The mayor says the timing is critical because bricks have been falling in the street and rain can make the situation worse. Gaulrapp wants to make the building as safe as possible before new businesses begin to move in.
Gaulrapp says he hopes to hire someone by next week. The whole project should only take three to four days.
