Freeport "Mad Men" Group Helps Fix Future Facility

FREEPORT (WIFR) -- A group of "Mad Men" in Freeport are working fast to bring new life to an old building.

The group of volunteers helping anyway they can to keep their town clean and beautiful

On Thursday we found them cleaning up the grounds at the old Francis School on South Walnut which is going to become the new "Madonna Renewal Center".

The facility will help women going through troubled pregnancies and young mothers by giving them shelter, food, clothing and anything they need to get on their feet and take care of their children.

Denny Garkey say they're more than willing to lend their hand to a group that is bringing something positive to Freeport.

"I think everybody has a righ to complain about things in their community that aren't being done, but they also have a responsibility then to follow up and try to say they, what can I do to make this a better situtation'. And the M-A-D part of Mad Men is making a difference so that's what we hope we're doing," Garkey said.

Garkey says the mad men aren't the only ones volunteering to spruce up the facility... Which will need at least another year of work before it's ready to open. Mike and whitney

The mad men have been around for about two and a half years and meet every Thursday.
