FREEPORT (WIFR) – The City of Freeport is making good on its promise to tear down problem properties.
Workers took down a home on South Louis, in the city’s east side neighborhood. Part of the second story had already started to collapse so city leaders were worried it had become a safety hazard. One neighbor said it’s about time something was done.
"It means a lot to us, cause the neighbors, they're trying to fix the houses up and we're doing the same and you have these house with the rats and the mice, it's really rough on the neighborhood, so we're trying to make the neighborhood look good,” said neighbor David Fritz.
More than a dozen other homes will also be torn down before the end of the year.
