FREEPORT (WIFR) -- Early intervention may help save local kids from suffering from drug and alcohol abuse later in life.
The greater Rockford based "Young Eagles Success" also known as the YES Club is celebrating its branch at the Freeport Stephenson County Boys and Girls Club.
The weekly workshops are teach 1st through 8th graders valuable life skills including drug, alcohol, and violence prevention.
The educational developer for the program, Dianna Cole, says, "With the violence and crime going on now a days, especially with young kids, you know you have young kids who are shooting and killing each other. So we feel that it was very necessary to establish a program that would allow kids to have an opportunity to talk about what's going on, to even address the issues of violence and how they feel about it."
The summer program runs every Monday from 1:00-4:00 PM from now until the third week in August.
