Four Robberies Hit Rockford Wednesday Night

ROCKFORD - At least four armed robberies took place around Rockford last night that police say may all involve the same two suspects.

The first incident occurred around 9:20 p.m. in the 2000 block of Ellen Avenue. Police say a man was walking down the street when two men approached him, one hitting him in the head with a miniature baseball bat and took money from him.

Almost an hour later, a woman was in her car at the parking lot of her work in the 2300 block of North Rockton Avenue when she was hijacked. Police say a man walked up to her car, a black 2002 Ford Focus, and opened the door, put a double-barrel shotgun to her chest and pulled her out of the car. Another man was on the other side of the car... They both got in and hit another car in the parking lot on their way out. The car was recovered by police at 1 A-M in the 1100 block of 10th Avenue.

Then in the 2600 block of Craig Hill Drive after 11 o'clock, police say a pizza delivery driver was returning to his car when he was hit with an unknown object by one suspect while another stood by and watched. They took his money and took off. He sustained minor injuries with a lump on the back of his head.

Last, at midnight, a cab driver picked up two men on the 1000 block of 7th Street. They asked to be driven to Avon and Andrews streets. Once they arrived, police say one suspect put a gun to the driver's head and demanded money. The driver gave them money and the suspects ran off. Descriptions of the men indicate they were wearing dark clothing and range in age from early 20s to late 30s.
